HOMEOPATHY MEDICINES IN CATTLE AND BUFFALOES

DISEASES OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

 

The major disorders of respiratory system are classified under

 

 1) Rhinorrhoea

2) Epistaxis

3) Bronchitis

4) Pleuro-pneumonia.

 

1)        Rhinorrhoea:

 

 It is the nasal discharge, occurring in rhinitis and in respiratory tract diseases. The nasal discharge may be copious, serous, mucoid, purulent, caseous, blood streaked; foul smelling(ozena) some timesmixed with feedparticles,suggesting dysphasia, and regurgitation. Bilateral rhinorrhoea suggests lesions posterior to nasal system. Rhinitis occurs in Foot and Mouth, Rinderpest,Schistosoma nasalis, Allergy, Anthrax, etc. exposure to cold.

 

Symptoms

: Rhinorrhoea, sneezing, snoring, erythema, erosion or ulcer.

Treatment

A. Aconite 30:

 in initial stages with fever.

 Dose

: 10 pills 4-5 times a day

B. Nux Vomica 30:

 when there is watery or thick bloody discharge from nose.

Dose

: 10 pills Q.I.D(four times a day)

C. Dulcamara 30:

 Attack of cold in summer, drinking cold water.

 Dose

: 10 pillsQ.I.D (four times a day)

 

D. Rhustox 30

: Short cough, accumulation of mucous in the nose, obstructing the respiration sneezing and restless ness.

 Dose

: 10 pills Q.I.D(four times a day)

 

E. Bryonia 30:

 When animal is disinclined to move, febrile, dry spasmodic cough, swelling of the nose, profuse coryza or crusts of hardened mucous, in the nose.

Dose

: 10 pills Q.I.D. (four times a day)

 

F. Pulsatilla 30:

 if the discharge is creamy or yellow greenish with out smell

 Dose

:B.I.D(twice a day). for 2 days

G. Merc Cor 200:

 If the discharge is offensive, bloody and mucoid.

 Dose

: B.I.D. (twice a day). for 2 days.

H. Arsenic 30:

 If the discharge is continuous, acrid, and eroding the nostrils, sneezing with discharge of watery mucous from the nose.

Dose

: 6 drops B.I.D. (twice a day).

I. Hepar sulph 200:

 Sneezing with plugs of mucous

 Dose

: B.I.D. (twice a day). for 2 days

J. Kali bichromicum 30:

 When the discharge is stringy with elastic plugs

Dose

: B.I.D. (twice a day). 2 – 3 days

K. Kali phos 6x + Ferrum phos 6x: when

 nasal discharge, yellow, bloody and offensive.

 Dose

: 10 pills B.I.D. (twice a day). 2-3 days

 2) Epistaxis:

 Bleeding from the nose occurs in diseases of upper respiratory mucosa& lungs, Braken fern, moldy sweet clover poisoning, ethmoidal tumors

Diseases - Anthrax, Haemorrhagic septicemia, Nasal schistosomiasis.

Mechanical Injuries: due to sharp objects like thorns, foreign bodies to nasal and turbinate bones. Blows and falls on the hard objects.

 

Toxins: feeding fungal infested feeds and fodder.

 

Treatment

:

A. Arsenic 200:

 Dose

 followed by Hamamelis Virginica Q + Millefollium Q :5 to 10 drops every 30 mts, till bleeding stops.

B. Ferrum Phos 6x :

 10 pills in a cup of water for every 2 to 3 hrs, till stoppage of bleeding.

C. Ipecac 30:

 Dyspnoea, bleeding from nose. one

 Dose

 every hr, till relief 

D. Lachesis 30:

 Bleeding, nostrils sensitive, and paraxyms of sneezing.

Dose

: T.I.D.(three times a day) for 2 days

3) Bronchitis:

 Inflammation of the bronchial tubes

Causes: 1. Associated with contagious diseases.2. Pathogenic Bacteria & viruses.3. Chemical irritants.4. Various parasitic worms.

Symptoms

:1. Constant blowing and coughing which is dry and hard, some times coughing appears in fits and dyspnea.2. Discharges from both nostrils.3. On auscultation over the lungs, one hears moist rales.

Treatment

A. Aconite 30:

 The drug may be administered at early stage, when animal is having fever.

B. Biochemical Mixture:

 

Ferrum Phosphricum 12x

Kali Muriaticum 3x

Kali Sulphuricum 3x 

Natrum sulphuricum 3x

C. Bryonia 30 :

 

 The drug is useful when the large bronchi and lungs are Involved, with the breathing may be quick, short and difficult. The animal is unwilling to move. This drug is also useful in chronic bronchitis.

Dose

: One

 Dose

 every 4 hrs. If improvement is observed, the drug may be given less frequently, till the animal recovers. In some cases, Aconite and Bryonia are given alternately.

D. Phosphorus 30:

 The drug is used, when small bronchi are affected and cough is loud, painful, and frequent with scanty discharge from nostrils. The drug may also be given in alternation with Bryonia every 3 or 4 hrs.

E. Belladonna 200:

 When cough is violent due to sore throat with difficulty in swallowing, in such condition pressure on throat produces suffocation.

F. Mercuris Solubilis 200:

 When the cough is worse at night and there is nasal discharge, which is thick and plentiful, the drug can also be used when small and large bronchi are inflamed and glands are swollen.

Dose

: Alternated with Belladonna for 3-4 days.

G. Arsenicum Album 30:

 there is loss of weight and wasting, depressed appetite & diarrhoea.

H. Antimony tart 200:

 This remedy is beneficial in loose cough with copious mucus flow

I. Kali Bichromicum 30

: The drug is excellent in tough, ropy and stringy phlegm

J. Homeopathic Combination I:-

4) Pleuro – Pneumonia:

 Inflammation of pleura and lungs.

Symptoms:

The symptoms are sudden loss of appetite, hurried breathing, panting, breath hot, every third or fourth respiration accompanied with a grunt, pulse verymuch accelerated, sometimes small and hard, at other times full and bounding but always very quick, extremities cold, or one fore and hind leg cold and the other hot, short husky cough, worse when the animal beginning to move; On auscultation asound may be heard something like that produced by agitating a sheet of thin paper. This form of the disease, if not promptly checked, generally ends in death, inabout 8 or 10 days.

A. Aconite 30:

 It must be used without delay, where the fever is very high, pulse accelerated, breathing hurried dry heat of the skin.

: 10 drops every 1-hour until 4

B. Phosphorus 30 or Bryonia 30

 May be used in alternation with aconite 30: after the more violent

 Symptoms

 have been subdued and especially if there still remains much difficulty in breathing.

C. Sequilla 30:

 Is indicated, when there is foam around the mouth, and the animal breathes through the mouth, and lies with the head extended in a straight line withthe body.
